Buhari orders minister to convene education summit

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to urgently convene a summit on education to address the issue of funding.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, disclosed this while declaring open the officials’ session of the ongoing 63rd National Council on Education (NCE) in Abuja.
He said Buhari described education as a tool for national development and stated that its funding should attract adequate attention.

Echono stated that the three tiers of government: federal, state and local government, would be mobilized to efficiently support the funding of education in the country.
The permanent secretary, who noted that no government could single-handedly fund education, called on stakeholders to support the Federal Government to reduce the population of out-of-school children in the country.
Meanwhile, to enhance growth in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector, the Presidency is perfecting arrangement to host the first national MSMEs awards.
Already, 36 finalists have emerged for the event scheduled to hold in Abuja on Thursday.
Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, in a statement, disclosed that the 36 finalists were selected from businesses across the country in a process that started on July 3, 2018.
Akande said the finalists comprised of three MSMEs in each of the 12 award categories.
